Skills or Good Grade which is a tool for success.

My name is Wisdom Obiekwe, I’m a Graduate of the Department of chemical engineering. Along my life pathway, lots of folks always emphasized the importance of a good gradeS and it being a precursor to success in life.

Seldom do you hear people tell you the importance of acquiring skills especially when you are a teenager going through middle or High school. Luckily for me after high school, my elder brother who was already in the service industry taught me a few things about the software used in managing various admin tasks on people’s phones. During that period the blackberry phone as at the center of the market and so the blackberry desktop manager was an invaluable software used for virtually almost every task including reloading people’s operating systems.

My Interest in computers helped me pick up the skill quickly and my journey into the service industry began. My hunger to know more things led me to experiment new software and new mods on my personal phone without caring about the ramifications. some might consider this reckless behavior but the ultimate goal was achieved in the end. Through My numerous experiments and research i was able to learn new processes used in bypassing the limitations posed by the android operating system then because it was basically a newbie.

After a period of 6 months in the service industry i gained admission into the university to study chemical Engineering as it was the profession my dad advised me to pursue. The challenges of insufficient funds are encountered by almost every university student especially those from poor homes like mine. So to survive I had to take up the skill I had learned pre-admission into the university market. The turning point of my journey in the service industry came when I purchased a Verizon branded Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone, Branded phones then were usually than their international variant but they had the limitation of not being able to use the hotspots for any other network outside of the carrier service.

When I got home that day, zealous to explore the features which my new smartphone had to offer, I stumbled upon the problem and immediately I became restless. I contemplated returning the phone and requesting the international version or trying to solve the problem on my phone. I poured through the internet searching through various solutions all through the night. Alas in the wee hours of the morning I got a breakthrough and solved the problem.

The next morning, I walked majestically into the store where I had bought my phone and complained about the problem withholding the fact that I had already solved it. The store owner looked at me apologetically and explained that he has been having similar issues and complaints but with no solution at hand. Without wasting time, I showed him that I had actually been able to solve the issue and could be of assistance to him and his customers should in case such problem arise in the future. There and then was the start of a new era in my life, I worked with the store owner part-time for a couple of years and used the profits accrued to fund all the miscellaneous expenses incurred during my academic year.

My success in that area of the service industry motivated me to pursue other skills that could provide value to people in return for a reward. Currently am a B.sc holder but most importantly am a software developer and content creator currently making a six-figure salary from the comfort of my home.

In summary, Good grades are important but it’s also vital that you learn a skill in the service industry. People pay for value and to be successful in life you have to be able to add value to peoples lives, then and only then will they be willing to compensate you in monetary terms or whatever medium is agreed.
